Blue- Green Rally

Description: A coalition of labor groups, environmental groups and trade activists will be convening at the Statehouse in Columbus to promote a common agenda: Clean Energy and Efficiency, Fair Trade, and Green Job Training. The Statehouse event will feature labor and environmental leaders and elected officials outlining their vision to “Unite, Relight, and Employ” Ohio at this crucial time. A model wind turbine will be erected on the lawn of the statehouse in a symbolic effort to illustrate unity.

Stratford Harvest Fair

Description: Stratford’s biggest event of the year is one you won’t want to miss! Puppet shows, entertainers and storytellers take over our picnic area on the main stage. Big kids are occupied as the pasture becomes “Kid’s World” and is active with kites, stilts, face painting, and a giant earth ball. Little tykes are kept active in our haybale toddler area with farm toys. Kids of all ages can climb on a tractor, make apple cider, ride on a horse-drawn wagon, make paper, grind grain, and so much more! Stratford sells home-grown food for lunch and volunteers provide a great array of baked goods for sale. Old-fashioned games involve the young and the young at heart! $6/adults, $4/children 2-12 yrs.

Simply Living member event: Fall Farm Visit to Slate Run Metro Park and Brunch

Description: Enjoy a visit to Slate Run Historical Farm to see the tools and machinery of an 1880’s farm, powered by solar power (via hand & muscle-operated tools). Bring a dish to share and a blanket for a picnic brunch (there are limited tables) at the entrance to the farm before heading in to enjoy the activities. To carpool, meet at the west end of the Giant Eagle parking lot next to the SL office at 9:15AM.

Public hearing on the Columbus Wet Weather Management Plan Draft Approval

Where: Columbus Public Library, South High Branch 3540 S. High St.
Description: Attend a Public Hearing on the Columbus Wet Weather Management Plan Draft Approval. For years the Sierra Club Central Ohio Group has advocated for improvements to the Columbus sewer system in order to eliminate sewer overflows into our rivers, parks and basements. The Wet Weather Management Plan (WWMP) is the City’s blueprint to address those problems in order to protect public health and Central Ohio waterways. Please attend an Ohio EPA public hearing on September 23 to show support for long time efforts of the Central Ohio Group and to let the Ohio EPA know that we are interested in the best possible outcomes.

Name That Tree!

Food Series #2: Freezing & Drying

National Public Lands Day-FACT Clean Up
Saturday – September 27, 2008 9:00 AM
Where: Academy Park, off the east side of Nelson Rd, south of E. Broad St.
Description: Plant restoration, honeysuckle removal, trash clean-up from along the Alum Creek river, greenway trail, roads.
Wear long pants, hats, heavy shoes/work boots (no sandals or flip-flops).
Please bring any heavy duty pruners, loppers, bow saws, chain saws, long handled shovels.
FACT will provide gloves, trash bags, snacks and beverages for our volunteers.
